I like the tungsten bead versions when fishing deep runs and sloping riffles, These will work anytime Caddis Pupa are around, so from May until October usually. Sizes 14 and 16 are quite common in Spring and Summer.....In the fall, bugs get a little smaller so size 16 and 18 are good choices but it's fishing so be adaptive to what the river gives you on size and colour. It's most important, however, to get any nymph to the right depth and feeding zone for each piece of water you fish.
