Caddis Flies are present in nearly every watershed we fish. There are 4 distinct stages to this bug and trout eat all of them. These little guys can be tricky to fish just because emergence happens fast and the eats can be splashy, aggressive and a little sloppy. It's sometimes hard to see exactly what's happening. We've put together a little guide to help navigate the Caddis Fly. You won't find too many details on the life cycle, just a few bug behaviours to help you think about how fish might react along with  techniques for imitating each stage with your fake fly.  1. Fly choice starts with matching Size, Profile and Colour in that order. (usually) 2. Depth is the second consideration. If they can't see or feel your fly, they can't eat it. 3. Your drift is critical. If it doesn't seem real, it gets refused. You'll figure out if they're taking it dead drift, mid current, on the swing etc. The point is don't stick with the same presentation that doesn't work. Experiment based on what you know about your bugs behaviour. The fish will follow.
